Hypotension that causes only mild
symptoms rarely requires treatment, symptoms such as short episodes of
lightheadedness and dizziness when standing. In case, your symptoms are more
severe the best course of action is to set an appointment with your doctor.
Doctors then try to address the cause for the hypotension and determine the
proper treatment. In case the low blood pressure is caused by drugs the
treatment commonly includes changing the dosage of certain drug or stopping it
completely. If it is not fully clear what is causing the hypotension, the best
course of action is to try and raise the blood pressure and so to reduce symptoms and signs. How you can deal with it largely depends of several
factors such as your health status, your age, the type of hypotension you have,
etc. Here follow several ways to deal with it:
Drink
more water. Even so everyone can benefit from it, drinking more water
matters more if you need to deal with hypotension. More fluids mean fewer
chances for dehydration and at the same time increases blood volume, two evenly
important factors in dealing with this condition. Add more
salt. The more salt you add in your diet the higher your blood pressure will go. However, too much salt can have the opposite effect and cause hypertension while trying to deal with hypotension. If you want to add more salt to your diet the best way to do so is under the supervision of your physician. Drugs.
There are certain drugs, used alone or combined that can help deal with
certain types of hypotension. Such drugs are
fludrocortisone, midodrine (orvaten, proamatine), Alpha-adrenoreceptor agonists,
steroids, vasopressors, Antidiuretic hormones, antiparkinson medicine.
